In 1737, Marguerite d’Youville founded the Grey Nuns community with three companions: Louise Thaumur de la Source, Catherine Cusson and Catherine Demers. Together, they join their possessions to take in the most destitute members of society.

Together, the Grey Nuns of Montreal will develop over time institutions that are at the heart of Marguerite d’Youville’s social action.
