Marguerite d’Youville chosen by the Société de Saint-Vincent-de-Paul

The Spirituality Committee of the National Council of the Société de Saint-Vincent-de-Paul (SSVP) has selected Marguerite d’Youville as its patron saint.

Voting ended on March 31, 2021 and a Mass commemorating the SSVP and its consecration to Saint Marguerite d’Youville was held on November 13, 2021.

The nominees were Saint Marguerite d’Youville, Saint André, Saint Kateri Tekakwitha and Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys. The results were analyzed by the Spirituality Committee of the National Council and then announced.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about some of our Canadian saints. Each of them is a model of a devout Catholic committed to furthering God’s work by actively living their faith in the world,” wrote the SSVP.

The Société de Saint-Vincent-de-Paul is a non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to fight poverty and social exclusion of disadvantaged individuals and families.

For more than 175 years, the SSVP has been helping low-income people through the dedication of some 2,600 volunteers who work daily in 70 points of service. The Society’s mission is in line with the work of Saint Marguerite d’Youville, who had at heart to help the underprivileged.
