Married and later widowed to Fran\u00e7ois Youville de la D\u00e9couverte, she founded the community of the Sisters of Charity of Montreal, the &#8220;Grey Nuns&#8221; in 1737. In recognition of her exceptional life of dedication and compassion for her fellow human beings, she was canonized in 1990 by Pope John Paul II.
