It was the beginning of a long presence in this American city. The St. Anthony&#8217;s Orphanage opened on November 12, 1855, when the nuns took in a 17-month-old baby. In addition to orphans, the institution took in boarders, the elderly, and the poor. In August 1951, faced with a shortage of religious personnel, the Grey Nuns left the institution and were replaced by the Franciscan Sisters of Tiffin, Ohio. However, they remain present in Toledo through the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6666\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6666\" style=\"width: 700px\"
