On this Louis Riel Day, we present Sara Riel, the younger sister of the popular M\u00e9tis leader. Born on October 11, 1848 in Rivi\u00e8re-Rouge (Saint-Boniface, Manitoba), she died on December 27, 1883 in \u00cele-\u00e0-la-Crosse (Saskatchewan). A draftswoman, letter writer and missionary nun, she became perpetually professed in the Grey Nuns of Montreal in 1868. Sister Riel was the first artist of European artistic tradition to be born in Western Canada. She owes her title to a drawing on pelure paper showing the mission of Saint-Jean-Baptiste de l’\u00cele-\u00e0-la Crosse in Saskatchewan in 1874. https:\/\/www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca\/en\/article\/sara-riel<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
